TASMANIAN WHISKY
The Tempest is the pinnacle of Rare Hare’s global exploration, created in collaboration with Hellyers Road Distillery, one of Tasmania’s most revered whisky pioneers. This extraordinary 20-year single malt draws its character from the island’s pristine microclimate, where hot summers, cool winters, abundant sunshine, and low humidity provide the perfect conditions for whisky maturation. Named as a nod to Shakespeare’s The Tempest, it embodies a tale of nature’s power and deliverance, reflected in every sip.
Locally sourced malted barley, nurtured by Tasmania’s rich soil and temperate maritime climate, forms the foundation of The Tempest. This single malt is designed using a meticulous, three-day pot still distillation process, followed by a secondary slow still distillation—a technique that enhances purity, depth, and character.
Unlike most Tasmanian whiskies, which are aged in small barrels to accelerate maturation, The Tempest spent 17 years in standard-size bourbon casks before finishing for an additional 3 years in port casks. This deliberate aging process allows for a measured evolution of flavor, culminating in a whisky of extraordinary balance, complexity, and refinement.
The Tempest opens with inviting aromas of biscotti, vanilla nougat, and citrusy marmalade, leading to a velvety palate of ginger, stewed apricots, and sultanas. The warm, resonant finish lingers with toffee and spice, showcasing the power and elegance of Tasmania’s terroir.
A limited-release expression, The Tempest is a testament to Rare Hare’s relentless pursuit of the extraordinary— a whisky designed for those who seek the rarest moments of indulgence.
