From the heritage lifestyle brand that is Playboy, a new 17-year bourbon is coming to market.
The new Rare Hare Spirits partners with blenders, sommeliers, chefs, and anthropologists to bring new releases from the lifestyle brand, all of which are bottled in Memphis, Tennessee.
A tribute to the year Playboy was founded, the “1953” is Rare Hare’s inaugural whiskey release. Bottled at 111 proof, this 17-year straight bourbon whiskey was finished in XXO Cognac casks from the Champagne region of France.
Because of the whiskey’s rarity, only 1,953 bottles were made for the US market. The distiller’s notes show that the whisky, on the nose, has fruity aromas, specifically caramelized nectarine and light clove.
On the palate, it tastes of light herbal notes and creamed corn, light oak and heightened baking spices. It has a long-lasting finish on the tongue with caramel and a touch of nutmeg.
“Passion and sophistication are the foundation of the Rare Hare brand and our spirits collection,” said Marc Bushala, CEO of Spirit Investment Partners, in a prepared statement. “The ‘1953 Anniversary Edition’ is an incredible bourbon unlike any other and worthy of being the inaugural whiskey release for Rare Hare.”
Each bottle is individually numbered and comes in a custom box equipped with near-field communication (NFC) technology. The NFC chip will give inaugural 1953 owners access to the Rare Hare Society offering exclusive luxury travel experiences, intimate events, private barrel releases and more.
Rare Hare Spirits launched last year with Anejo Conejo, a collaboration with tequila brand Codigo 1530.
Rare Hare 1953 Anniversary Edition was finished in XXO Cognac casks for 12 months, with XXO being a category that was created in 2018 to note Cognac that’s aged for a minimum of 14 years.
